Manaiakalani Film festival

This year for the Manaiakalani Film Festival - Room 8 worked together to create a film about safe hygiene!

The process took a long time, from brainstorming to planning, to filming and then editing! The best part about the whole thing was that our clever Room 8 students did it all!

We started by brainstorming what topic we wanted to film on - since we had just finished studying "safety starts with me" - the students decided they wanted to teach others how to have safe hygiene.

As a class, we then all picked our roles. Some students were script writers, others were editors, actors, directors and Miss Morrison was the person behind the camera!

The script writers decided they wanted to make safe hygiene something that other school students would want to participate in - that is where the idea of the 'dab' came in.

Room 8 worked really hard to put this altogether and we are very proud of it. We hope you enjoy our film - leave us a comment with some feedback and let us know if you will dab when you sneeze!

Tamaki Primary at the Festival of Education 2014

The Festival of Education was an event that took place at the Viaduct Events Centre and ran over 3 days.  The aim of the festival was to showcase all the amazing things happening right now in education.  We were part of the MANAIAKALANI stall.  We were there from 1pm to 4pm.  Student representatives included:  Willy, Cypress, Mavis, Jayden, Alison and Darwin.  All students spoke well when asked questions and represented our school and Manaiakalani proudly.  It was an amazing experience and we came back to school buzzing with inspiration and ideas to make our school an even better place!

In term two we were learning how to make movies that influence our world. We learnt a lot about the movie making process. 

Room 8 also got the opportunity to ask some real movie makers about their experiences and get some tips to take our movies to the next level. Jayden created this presentation sharing movie magic tips. We celebrated our Movie Magic term with our very own Tamaki Primary Academy Awards.

Our class movie, 30 Things, will be played at The Manaiakalani Film Festival today. We wanted our movie to help children find fun activities to do after school. We chose this message because we wanted to help kids stay out of trouble.

We made our movie in a fun way so that kids our age can understand it. Most of the advertisements for staying out of trouble are aimed at teenagers or adults. We also wanted the kids to learn this message at a young age.
