Nurse Visit

This term out Inquiry focus is...

SAFETY STARTS WITH ME

We are very lucky as each week we will have a different visitor come to our class to talk to us about the many ways to be safe.
This week we had the school nurse come and talk to us about how to be safe with our hygiene.

It was really interesting and we made some great presentations to reflect on our work!

Here are some:

Welcome back to term 3

Welcome back to Term Three!

Room 8 is really excited to be back for another great term. We have so much going on this term, with an inquiry focus of "Safety" and of course the 2016 Olympics!

Here is our artwork that we made of the Rio 2016 Olympic Logo - each student was given a square to copy and they had to try and guess what the whole image looked like. This is what it created!

We are really excited to have a great term 3!

Inquiry Project

For Term 1 at Tamaki Primary, our Inquiry topic was Values!
We focused on learning all about all 5 of our school values all term:
- Ako
- Tukumarie
- Rangimarie
-Whanaungatanga
- Manaakitanga

We came up with a quote that encompasses all 5 values - a motto we hope to work by!
We made Posters, brainstorms, quotes, we taught our buddy class about them, and to finish we made a video!

Each student was put into a group that focused on a particular value.
They had to plan it, write a script, and film it themselves!

Here is our amazing final cut - Leave a comment to share what you think of our video and our quote! :)

Trip to Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World!

Today, the senior syndicate went to Kelly Tarlton's as part of our inquiry "Tagata o le Moana."  It was an amazing trip and we saw so many wondrous creatures.  It has really helped to focus our thinking about how special sea life is and how we can help to protect it for our future.

Energy Movie - Group One

This term we have been studying Energy.  As part of our end of term product, we had to produce an information pamphlet to take home to our whanau and a group movie encouraging others to think about how they are using energy.  Here is Group One's finished movie product.  Enjoy!

Interviewing Movie Makers!

Room 8 got the opportunity to ask some real movie makers about their experiences and get some tips to take their movies to the next level. Here is some of the key questions from the interview!

Why is this movie so important to you?

This movie was important for me because it was a chance to get together with my cousins and do something together. I think they’re all talented and really want to give everyone the opportunity to showcase their talents.

Did it relate to your personal life?

The story is very personal to us. Our parents came from Tonga. So it’s about how fortunate we are to be here.

How did you get the movie done in 48 hours?

A lot of teamwork. Good planning. We had to plan as best as could. But like everything, you run into problems. Because we had a big team, everyone had their own talents, so everyone could help with solving problems.

Was there ever a time that you just wanted to give up?

There were two times. One at 4am in the morning, and again at 6pm. It was everything. It was so close to the deadline. We had an hour to go, and we needed to change some subtitles. While Ia was trying to edit one part, I came in and said “We need to change the subtitile.” Everyone was stressing saying “This much time to go! This much time to go!” At 6 o’clock, I had finished the editing, and I was really tired at that time.

Was the forty eight hours all worth it at the end?

Yes. It was a good experience. You learn what people are like under stress.

If you could give advice to people that only had 3 minutes to make a movie what advice would that be?

Keep it simple. Go as simple as you can. Know your story. Know what you’re going to do. Short. Straight to the point.

Using Google Maps

This is a map showing all the stadiums showing games in the RWC 2011. We had to search for each stadium one by one and place pins on the map using google maps. This learning will help us the next time we need to find new places.
